Are you in-network with MetLife?

That depends on your specific plan, because MetLife sells many different plans through employers and directly to individuals. Call us with your card and we will tell you whether we are in-network for your plan, and what your share of the cost would be either way. Being out-of-network does not mean you cannot use your benefits with us; it usually means your share is higher.

If your coverage comes through a federal agency or a large employer, the plan design can differ from the standard PPO, so it is worth checking your benefits before a bigger treatment.

What MetLife plans usually cover

Most PPO dental plans sort treatment into three levels, and your plan sets the percentages, the yearly deductible and the annual maximum. These are typical figures, not a promise of coverage; we confirm your actual numbers when we check your benefits.

  • Preventive care, such as exams, cleanings and routine X-rays: often covered at or near 100%.
  • Basic care, such as fillings and simple extractions: often covered at about 70–80%.
  • Major care, such as crowns, bridges and dentures: often covered at about 50%.

MetLife PPO plans usually pay a set percentage of a negotiated fee, so your share can differ from another patient’s even for the same treatment. Some dental plans also carry part of an unused annual maximum into the next year, usually only if you had your checkups and stayed under a spending threshold. We check whether your plan has that feature.

How to check your MetLife benefits

  1. Have your card ready: member ID, the policyholder’s name and date of birth, and the group number if your plan comes through an employer.

  3. We check your plan and explain what it covers, what it does not, and what you would pay, before you commit to treatment.
  4. After your visit, we file the claim with MetLife for you.

You can also sign in to your MetLife member account to see your annual maximum and how much of it you have used this year. If your plan runs on the calendar year, unused benefits usually reset on January 1.
