Emergency Tooth Extraction

Emergency tooth extraction may become necessary in various situations where delaying treatment could lead to further complications or exacerbate existing dental issues. Below are some scenarios where emergency tooth extraction might be required:

Why do we Need Emergency Tooth Extraction?

Emergency tooth extraction serves several critical purposes, including:

✓ Pain Relief: Extracting a severely decayed or damaged tooth can provide immediate relief from persistent or excruciating dental pain.
✓ Prevention of Infection: By removing infected or damaged teeth promptly, emergency extraction helps prevent the spread of infection to neighboring teeth, gums, and even other parts of the body.
✓ Prevention of Further Complications: Addressing dental issues promptly through emergency extraction can prevent more serious complications, such as abscesses, bone loss, and systemic infections.
✓ Preservation of Oral Health: While the extraction of a tooth is typically considered a last resort, it may be necessary to preserve the overall health and integrity of the mouth, particularly in cases where the tooth cannot be saved through other means.
✓ Facilitation of Other Treatments: In some instances, emergency extraction may be necessary to facilitate other dental treatments, such as orthodontic procedures or the placement of dental implants.

When do we Need Emergency Tooth Extraction?

✓ Severe Tooth Decay: When a tooth is extensively decayed and cannot be restored with fillings or root canal therapy, extraction may be the only viable option to prevent the spread of infection to surrounding teeth and gums.
✓ Advanced Gum Disease: Periodontal disease can lead to the destruction of the supporting tissues around the teeth, causing them to become loose or shift in position. In severe cases, extraction may be required to remove diseased teeth and prevent the spread of infection.
✓ Traumatic Injury: Accidents or injuries to the mouth, such as a fall or impact during sports, can result in fractured or dislodged teeth. In cases where the tooth cannot be salvaged through other means, emergency extraction may be necessary to alleviate pain and prevent further damage.
✓ Orthodontic Treatment: In some cases, tooth extraction may be necessary as part of orthodontic treatment to create space for proper alignment of the remaining teeth. While not always considered an emergency, immediate extraction may be required if a tooth poses a risk of impaction or other complications during the orthodontic process.

✓ Impacted Wisdom Teeth: Impacted wisdom teeth, which are unable to fully erupt due to lack of space or improper positioning, can cause pain, swelling, and infection. In such instances, emergency extraction may be recommended to alleviate discomfort and prevent complications.

Ararat Dental has been our family dentist for over 10 years at both of the jersey City and North Bergen locations. Dr. Youssoufian has a wonder sweet and caring demeanor. The staff is always very nice and courteous and they are always able to accommodate you for any emergency visits you might have. She’s also very thorough and considerate. She’s isn’t the type of Dr. to preform any major, or risky procedures, unless absolutely necessary. This has saved me more than one tooth and a lot of money, where another Dr. might be eager to perform a root canal or oral surgery, etc. She and her staff are wonderful and I can’t recommend them enough.
