Bite Splints: Night Guards

Bite splints, commonly referred to as night guards, are custom dental appliances designed to protect teeth from grinding and clenching, a condition known as bruxism. This often occurs during sleep, leading to various dental and health issues.

Key Features and Benefits of Bite Splints/Night Guards:

  1. Protection Against Tooth Wear:
Night guards act as a barrier between the upper and lower teeth, preventing direct contact. This reduces wear and tear, preserving the enamel and preventing fractures.
  2. Alleviation of Jaw Pain:
Many people who grind their teeth experience jaw pain or discomfort, particularly in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). A bite splint can help distribute pressure evenly, alleviating pain and tension in the jaw muscles.
  3. Improved Sleep Quality:
By reducing teeth grinding and clenching, night guards can help improve sleep quality for both the wearer and their partner, as it minimizes noise during sleep.
  4. Custom Fit:
At Ararat Dental, we create custom-fit bite splints tailored to each patient’s dental anatomy. This ensures comfort, as a well-fitted guard stays in place during sleep and is less likely to cause irritation.
  5. Prevention of Other Dental Issues:
Regular use of night guards can help prevent issues such as tooth sensitivity, gum recession, and headaches caused by bruxism.

Ararat Dental has been our family dentist for over 10 years at both of the jersey City and North Bergen locations. Dr. Youssoufian has a wonder sweet and caring demeanor. The staff is always very nice and courteous and they are always able to accommodate you for any emergency visits you might have. She’s also very thorough and considerate. She’s isn’t the type of Dr. to preform any major, or risky procedures, unless absolutely necessary. This has saved me more than one tooth and a lot of money, where another Dr. might be eager to perform a root canal or oral surgery, etc. She and her staff are wonderful and I can’t recommend them enough.
